- Linux PC
Just about any PC will do. Don't try to use a small memory footprint
machine; however, 32M of memory should suffice. Most OpenSS7 packages do not
use more than about 1M of kernel. Intel architecture is not required. Most
packages build on PPC, HPPA and other architectures supported by Linux.
- Linux 2.4.x Kernel
LiS 2.16.18 runs nicely with 2.4.x kernels. We have released 2.4 versions of
the SCTP and SS7 stacks (0.8.2+). These will run on SMP as well. We started
with RH 7.2 (no updates) running Linux 2.4.7-10. We now use RH 7.2 (updates)
with a stock (kernel.org) 2.4.18 kernel and RH 9 (updates) with a stock RH
kernel.
Our autoconf and rpm releases install nicely on most distributions (including
RedHat 7.x, 8, 9, fc1, Debian). Avoid recent RedHat AS3 kernels (partially
2.6) until we get things running on WhiteBox Linux.
- LiS STREAMS 2.16 or later
LiS STREAMS 2.16.18 can be obtained from
ftp://ftp.gcom.com/pub/linux/src/LiS/LiS-2.16.18.tgz. LiS must be
correctly loaded and installed to be able to compile the OpenSS7 STREAMS
packages.
Refer to instructions in the LiS package for its installation. You can go to
GCom's site if you are interested in more
information on LiS.
But, check out our autoconf release of LiS-2.16.18-10 on the downloads page. We got tired of supporting LiS, so
we packaged it up using autoconf and rpm, so you can now simply download and
install the rpms. Also, see the RPMS directory. (We'll
make the pages look nice later...)
