Bearer Independent Call Control (BICC)


Overview:-	This is the Siganlling System No. 7 (SS7) Bearer Independent Call Control (BICC) component of the OpenSS7 stack. This component implements BICC functions in a STREAMS multiplexing driver. Originally it was believed that the ISUP component (and thus the BICC component) would be more properly placed in user-space; however, the current implementation approach for ISUP and ISDN places the entire ISUP and ISDN call control and signalling functions in a STREAMS multiplexing driver. The BICC component has not been started, but the current design approach is to provide BICC modifications to the ISUP component to implement BICC within the ISUP component. The BICC STREAMS driver will support I_LINK and I_PLINK of Message Transfer Part Interface (MTPI) streams providing SS7 MTP-SAPs under the multiplexing driver.

History:-	The BICC component was started in March 2001.

Status:-	The BICC component is in the Design stage.

Dependencies:-	This component depends on the SS7 MTP Level 3, SIGTRAN M3UA or TALI driver and the Message Transfer Part Interface (MTPI).

Code:-	Code has not yet been released to the public. Source code is available on the OpenSS7 CVS archive under the subdirectory /openss7/strss7/drivers/bicc. The BICC component code will be publicly released with the next major release of the strss7 package.

Test Results:-	Test results for the BICC component are not yet available. Preliminary PICS and PIXIT Proforma for BICC will be available here.

Release Package:-	The Bearer Independent Call Control (BICC) component is an integral part of the OpenSS7 STREAMS SS7 stack and can be found in the bicc sub-directory in the strss7 release code. Please see the Downloads Page for more information.
